The brewery Storm got it's name from the harsh marine environment of Newfoundland. This brewery was previously known as Freshwater Brewing Co ., founded in 1995 in Carbonear NL. Storm Brewing is known internationally for their success with the Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI), which are experiments that include the successful growth of oyster and shiitake mushrooms as well as earthworm cultivation on brewery spent grain. Their beers are unpasteurized and contain no preservatives or additives (www.stormbrewing.ca, 2012).
