The Chodovar family brewery was built on ancient cellars that were connected to the foundation of a castle. In the middle ages a dog named Albi in story found a well of plentiful spring water close to the castle and has been considered a good spirit for the brewery for centuries. According to an old brewery tradition at the end of the working day, when the youngest apprentice was to leave for the evening, a jug of beer would be poured into Albi`s bowl. This ensured the dog would be happy and would protect the brewery. In 1992, Chodovar has been a limited company that has played a completely independent role in the Czech market. The Plevka family has taken on the responsibility of running the brewery. This historic brewery has made a sought-after tourist destination. There is a stylish restaurant, a little brewery museum, the wellness hotel - with original beer baths and a beerrarium in the historical malt house building (www.chodovar.cz, 2011).
