Baltika Brewery located in St. Petersburg started construction of the new factory in 1978. The state enterprise Baltika Brewer was formed in 1990 right after completion of the construction work (www.eng.baltika.ru, 2011). The russian beer market continues to go through rapid change as it adjusts to a capitalist economy. Baltika has become pretty popular and is the countries largest beer producer. It brews the top two brands (Baltika and Arsenalnoye). The company accounts for more then 7 out of 10 beer sales and exports to 46 different countries (The Beer Book, 2011).

In 2007, the Russian companies Baltika, Vena, Pikra and Yarpivo exist as a unified legal entity. However, in April 2008 Baltika became part of the Carlsberg Group, which owns 89.01% of the Companies Capital (www.eng.baltika.ru, 2011).
